In conjunction with Rovos Rail, Macit Tours offers a fantastic nine-day golf safari which includes some of South Africa’s finest golf courses. At all venues there are optional excursions for the non-playing guests who will be enjoy some of Africa’s most special sights.
The journey is a round trip starting in the outskirts of Pretoria, at Rovos’s new Station and Locomotive yard. The Pride of Africa wends its way through the highveld highveld maize fields to the picturesque village of Watervalonder. The golfers meet their first challenge at the Hans Merensky Golf Course, whilst non-playing guests enjoy a game drive in the famous Kruger National Park . The next day we arrive in Swaziland where the golfers tackle the Royal Swazi Golf Club course, whilst non-golfers track game at Mlilwane Game Reserve followed by a visit to the Houses of Parliament and a Swazi candle factory. In Zululand we visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve and the World Heritage Site of the St. Lucia Estuary.
Then it’s on to Durban, where golfers play one of South Africa’s best courses, Durban Beachwood Country Club whilst non-playing guests enjoy a tour of the city and visit the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
In the foothills of the splendid Drakensburg Mountains golfers take on the challenge of the Champagne Sports Resort, whilst the non-playing guests are taken on a tour of the Anglo-Boer War battlefields.
Our final port of call, before returning to Pretoria, is the magnificent resort of Sun City where you can follow the footsteps of some of golf’s legends like Ernie Els, Tiger Woods, Colin Montgomerie and of course Gary Player, on the course designed by and named after him. It is also a final chance to see Africa’s Big Five in the Pilansberg Game Reserve, followed by a leisurely farewell dinner aboard the train.
