The Rest of Africa
Africa has some wonderful destinations and offers an incredible diversity of potential holidays. For a beach holiday of sea and sun nothing can beat Mozambique with its2,470 kms of untouched coastline. Because of the civil war in Mozambique most of the country remains undeveloped and is a true untouched paradise. Mozambique offers beaches unequalled elsewhere in the world, and it is impossible to select the ‘best’ place. The Bazaruto Archipelago and Vilanculos are unforgettable with vast expanses of white beaches and aqua marine translucent waters. It also offers some spectacular snorkelling and diving opportunities. However, it need not be a budget breaking holiday we offer different accommodation and options to cater for all pockets. Closer to Maputo is Inhaca Island for a romantic island get away or Punta do Ouro near the South African border, Inhambane, Beira or Pemba all offer plenty of sun, secluded beaches, diving and water sports.
Neighbouring Zimbabwe offers a wide diversity for its visitors from the majestic Victoria Falls, to the Zimbabwe ruins or fishing, boating and relaxing on Lake Kariba. Zimbabwe is a nature lover’s paradise. This vibrant, friendly nation offers something for everyone, a recreation of its colonial past to bungi jumping, white water rafting or microlighting over the spectacular Victoria Falls.
Botswana is the game reserve of Africa. The Okavango Delta and Chobe areas in the north offer some of the best and most spectacular game viewing and bird watching available anywhere. Serviced by numerous privately owned, luxury camps it offers the best in terms of remote, untouched African bush and western style luxury accommodation and cuisine. If you want to experience Africa the old fashioned way, you can do that too. You can go on the real camping safari where you pitch your own tent, cook you own meals over an open fire, and bathe from a bucket of water. South of the delta you can experience the opposite extreme in the Kalahari Desert with its vast expanse of almost nothing but sand.
Namibia offers a similar experience to Botswana, but without the water options. It has the vast desert and semi-desert areas with the highest sand dunes in the world at Soussousvlei and abundant game at Etosha Pan in the north. Also, worth trying is dune surfing and quad biking – an adventure not to be missed.
Nestled between Mozambique and Zimbabwe is Malawi, known for its beautiful lake which offers diving, fishing, boating or relaxing in the Sun. Malawi is often referred to as the ‘warm heart of Africa’ because of its friendly people. Malawi is another unspoilt African wilderness filled with game reserves and nature trails and often forgotten by visitors to the continent.
